Talisman Stacking Project

The Fish talisman was inspired by William de Morgan’s Persian Fish Tiles and they have also influenced the artists’ choice of cobalt blue as the base colour for the project. Across the globe the image of the fish, particularly of salmon in Celtic folklore and Koi in Eastern traditions, have come to represent both luck and knowledge, leading people to ever be in search of richer fishing grounds. Recently the World Wildlife Fund and Greenpeace have warned against overfishing and destructive fishing practices, noting that overfishing causes damage to more than the oceans themselves, and has vast implications on global food chains, eventually effecting human communities.
